In 2002, we built La Casa del Agua (Uyotot ‘Já in the Chontal Mayan language), the main environmental awareness center in Southeastern Mexico, in the state of Tabasco, at the confluence of the two largest rivers in Mexico: the Grijalva and Usumacinta.
La Casa del Agua’s mission is to promote, throughout society, values regarding the conservation, protection and sustainable use our planet’s natural heritage, and in particular, of the value of the Centla wetlands, which are the largest wetlands in Mesoamerica.
Inside the exhibit rooms, we installed a series of didactic and interactive tools that address ecosystem conservation and restoration, climate change and societal participation in the care of the environment. There are also rooms where we provide training as well as environmental education and awareness classes and workshops.
